DON’T TRIGGER ME…

Don't Trigger Me

Using the parlance of pop psychology, these words / phrases / sentences are guaranteed to trigger me.

Some are perfume specific, others reflect my copy-editing background in which I’m super careful with the use of certain words (not every new hyped niche release can be a “masterpiece”, surely?). Or at least try to be.

Don't Trigger Me

Most are self-explanatory. Others are quite petty. And please note, I’m also not above contradicting myself.

Which words / phrases are sure to set you off?

These are some of my regular red alerts:

DUPE

LONG-LASTING PERFUME

INFLUENCER

BEAST MODE

MASTERPIECE

OLD FASHIONED

Don't Trigger Me

I ONLY WEAR NICHE FRAGRANCES

NATURAL INGREDIENTS ARE THE BEST

MASTER PERFUMER

  1. Mmmm Richard, need to think about this… You have a nose for those too oft used phrases… André

  2. Influencer has horrified me, very deeply, from the very first time it started appearing. Nightmareish – as is ‘followers’, in truth. I was never very pro-cult.

  3. Hear! Hear!

From your list, “beast mode” is probably the worst offender for me – I did feel triggered just reading it here.

Nose Prose mentioned the other one that I hate – “old lady perfume.”

From me: I HATE the adjective “clean” – not as a descriptor of the scent but as a definition for ingredients/production.

I look forward to your comments.
